Beth Lodge-Rigal
is a singer-songwriter, a charming, down-to-earth, wry performer,
whose lyric style is smart, elegant, simple, poetic, deep
and true; those same words also describe Beth, the very
"real" individual. Her strength is her vulnerability,
both in her life and in her craft; her songs mine the territory
of the heart and ponder the ambiguities, joys, sorrows,
the work and play of everyday life. While she does not shy
away from the darkest corners of her psyche, Beth maintains
a positive outlook in life and in songs full of compassion,
generosity, gratitude and hope. Her songs tell stories both
personal and profound which, in the tradition of the best
songwriters, examine what it means to be human and what
gives meaning to our lives.
Beth’s songwriting showcases "nearly flawless
manipulations of rhythm and melody" and her very versatile
voice, which she’s "able to move in an instant
from a Suzanne Vega whisper to a full-throated, bluesy growl."
She has won songwriting honors at the prestigious Kerrville
NewFolk Festival in Kerrville, Texas, and was a winner of
the Emerging Songwriter Competition at the Napa Valley Music
Festival in Napa, California. She has independently released
three critically acclaimed CD’s, a CD of songs written
with young people, and has shared stages with the likes
of Richie Havens, Greg Brown, Gillian Welch, Brooks Williams,
Carrie Newcomer, and other world-class performing artists,
entertaining audiences from California to Connecticut. |
