Older youth and
adults also respond to a program of listening
to great songs, analyzing and discussing features of songs
in various genres and then being guided in writing exercises
toward a goal of finding one’s "own voice"
as a writer and freeing the songwriter within. Workshops
with more advanced songwriters involve much more sharing
of work in progress and individual feedback, and could
include topics such as brainstorming, drafting, resting,
rewriting, and publishing.
Workshops and Residencies:
These are variable and are tailored to the needs of each
group. Single visits might consist of Beth sharing some
of her songs and stories, discussing how she became a
songwriter, questions and answers and some group brainstorming
and "song start" exercises.
2 - 4 session workshops or artist residencies offer opportunities
for many more interactive writing and singing exercises.
